Good for the Heart: what do fresh ginger and corporate social responsibility have in common?

Posted by Prithvi Chauhan on November 28, 2022

When you buy fresh ginger at your favorite supermarket, chances are you’re thinking about adding it to your healthy, delicious meals for the week. But you may not think about how it got into your grocery basket. At FAVE, we’re always thinking about where our produce comes from, and we want to share that with you! In fact, corporate social responsibility is a huge part of our identity. Our passion is making our communities better.

All’s fair that starts fair (trade)

The heart of corporate social responsibility is wanting to make the world a fairer place to live. FAVE advocates the principles of fair trade, which are the basis of everything we do. We strive for open communication and honesty at all levels of the supply chain. We have the greatest respect for the environment and cultural identity. Forced labor, child labor, and discrimination have no place in our business. Most of all, we want to give small producers on the edge a chance at independence and secure income.

In short, we believe in treating others the way we want to be treated! It’s the only way to do business here at FAVE.

Putting our money where our mouth is

With this in mind, FAVE's dedication to corporate social responsibility starts with our farms. In August 2019, we partnered with Norfund, the Norwegian Investment Fund for developing countries, and the South African produce company Neofresh. Together, we created 500 jobs at a produce-growing initiative in Mozambique. Our experts taught locals to grow, store, and transport fresh ginger for the Canadian market. And we won’t stop at fresh ginger! This project opened the door to introducing more tropical crops to palates and markets worldwide. We can’t wait to see what else we can grow together!

This was more than just a way for FAVE to invest in premium African ginger. We took a risk on an underdeveloped community, building a sustainable resource and tapping into its potential. It's one more way that we deliver on our promise to have a positive impact on our communities.

Gratitude with all the fixings

Moreover, FAVE Produce clearly commits to corporate social responsibility through our work with local organizations. For instance, we donated 150 Thanksgiving meals to members of the Lower Eastside Girls Club of New York and their families. The Lower Eastside Girls Club belongs to one of the biggest, most ethnically diverse neighborhoods in New York City. Through their free programs and mentoring, they help hundreds of youth shape better futures for themselves and their communities. All in all, we’re thankful to share gratitude and some Thanksgiving dinner goodness with them.

Corporate social responsibility and good business go hand in hand

At FAVE we’re proud to work with groups that share our vision of connecting communities to health and success. When you choose FAVE, you’re not just choosing high-quality fresh ginger. You’re choosing a brand that genuinely takes corporate social responsibility to heart. After all, we know fresh ginger is good for the heart – but so is good business practice. We’re proud that at FAVE Produce, we do both of these things well.
