Trail Mix Energy Bites
Posted by Niel Neethling on May 24, 2025

Trail mix energy bites are a brilliant grab-and-go snack, packed with nuts, seeds, and dried fruit. They’re no-bake, dead simple to make, and you can tweak them to suit your taste. Whether you’re after a quick energy boost or a healthy treat, these little bites have you covered.
Ingredients (Makes 12-15 bites)
- 100g rolled oats
- 120g almond butter
- 80ml honey (or maple syrup for vegan)
- 60g mixed nuts (e.g., almonds, cashews), chopped
- 60g mixed seeds (e.g., chia, pumpkin)
- 60g dried fruit (e.g., cranberries, apricots), chopped
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Optional: 30g dark chocolate chips, 2 tbsp desiccated coconut, or 1/2 tsp cinnamon
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Mix the Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine the oats, almond butter, honey, nuts, seeds, dried fruit, and vanilla extract. Stir until everything sticks together. If it’s too dry, add a bit more almond butter or honey.
Step 2: Shape the Bites
Roll the mixture into small balls, about the size of a walnut, using your hands. If it’s sticky, wet your hands slightly to make it easier.
Step 3: Chill
Place the bites on a tray and pop them in the fridge for at least 1 hour to firm up.
Step 4: Serve
Enjoy straight from the fridge or pack them for a snack on the go. They’re great with a cuppa or post-workout.

Tasty Variations
- Choccy Treat: Add dark chocolate chips for a bit of indulgence.
- Tropical Twist: Mix in desiccated coconut and dried pineapple for a sunny vibe.
- Spiced Up: Stir in 1/2 tsp cinnamon or nutmeg for a warm, cosy flavour.
Tips for Success
- Use unsweetened dried fruit to keep the sweetness in check.
- If the mixture doesn’t hold together, add more nut butter or honey, a teaspoon at a time.
- Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week, or freeze for up to a month.
- Wrap individually in cling film for easy grab-and-go snacks.

Why You’ll Love It
These energy bites are a lifesaver when you need a quick, healthy snack. They’re endlessly customisable, require no cooking, and taste ace. Perfect for busy days, hikes, or just a cheeky treat!
